Recap: Fireside Dinner with Jon Miller (Marketo) & Marcelo Lebre (Remote)

In September 2024, Fireside Dinners hosted one of its most memorable events: a private fireside chat at a stunning Hillsborough, CA estate with two of the most influential figures in B2B SaaS.

The Headliners

Jon Miller co-founded Marketo, which was acquired by Adobe for $4.75 billion in 2018. He later co-founded Engagio (acquired by Demandbase) and is widely credited with popularizing Account-Based Marketing. Marcelo Lebre is the co-founder and President of Remote, the global HR platform that has raised over $500M and is valued at more than $3 billion.

The Format

The evening began with a private chef dinner for 35 carefully curated guests — SaaS founders, CROs, and investors — followed by an outdoor fireside chat on the estate's stone patio. The format was intimate: two chairs, two mics, and 35 people seated in a semicircle under the trees.

What They Talked About

Jon and Marcelo covered the evolution of B2B go-to-market from 2010 to today — from the rise of inbound marketing and marketing automation, to the current era of AI-assisted outbound and the death of the MQL. Jon was candid about what he'd do differently at Marketo if he were starting today. Marcelo talked about building Remote's distributed sales team across 180 countries and how they think about pipeline generation at scale.

The Dinner Effect

What made the evening exceptional wasn't just the speakers — it was the room. Every guest had been individually vetted and invited. There were no badge scanners, no vendor booths, no awkward networking cocktail hours. Just 35 people who wanted to be there, seated around a dinner table, having real conversations.

Three separate partnerships were initiated that evening. Two attendees became Remote customers within 60 days.
